In a world that is increasingly focusing on sustainability and environmental protection, recycled foams are becoming increasingly important. Recycled foams are an innovative solution that has established itself as a resource-saving alternative to conventional foams. In this blog post we will take an in-depth look at recycled foam, from its definition to different variants and a special focus on low CO2footprint. We will also introduce some of our recycled foams and explain their possible applications.

What exactly is recycled foam?

Recycled foam is a type of foam that is created by recycling previously used foams. At Novapor, we collect all our scraps, offcuts and old packaging from customers and recycle them in-house. Our scraps are returned to the manufacturers and new products, the recycled foams, are then created from them. This has positive effects, as it means that new products or important raw materials can be dispensed with during production. The great advantage of polyethylene is that it can be recycled an infinite number of times without affecting the quality and function of the end product. This innovative approach makes a positive contribution to the circular economy by endlessly extending the life cycle of materials and using resources more efficiently.

What types of recycled foams are there?

There are different types of recycled foams, which vary depending on the raw materials and manufacturing processes. Some of the commonly used materials for recycled foam are recycled polyurethane and recycled polyethylene. These materials can come from a variety of sources, including industrial waste, insulation, packaging materials, or manufacturing waste. The diversity of recycled foams allows them to be used in various industries and products.

What is the carbon footprint of recycled foam?

A key advantage of recycled foam is its low CO2footprint compared to traditional foams. Producing foam from recycled materials often requires less energy and therefore reduces dependence on fossil fuels. This helps to minimize greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the ecological footprint. The use of recycled foams in products and packaging materials thus supports efforts towards more sustainable and climate-friendly production.

Presenting NOVAPOR recycled foams

Now we would like to introduce you to some of our recycled foams that are not only efficient but also environmentally friendly.

RENEW

With more than 80 % recycled content, our RENEW is a true champion among recycled foams. It impresses with its good padding properties and light weight. RENEW is mainly used as padding for protective packaging to ensure sensitive products are not damaged during transportation.

Ecozote LD 27 R

LD 27 R is a cross-linked PE foam with 30 % recycled material. With a high-quality surface, it also protects scratch-sensitive products. LD 27 R is particularly popular for reusable solutions such as returnable packaging or foam inserts for cases.

ARPLANK

ARPLANK is a new non-crosslinked recycled foam, but with all the advantages of a crosslinked foam. A real all-rounder. With its fine surface, it protects scratch-sensitive products and its super cushioning properties protect devices during transport. ARPLANK has a recycled content of 30%. What is particularly interesting is that there is also an electrically conductive version of the foam. Learn more about ARPLANK here

Composite foam

Composite foam is a recycled foam made from recycled polyurethane foams. It is available in different volume weights. What is striking about composite foam is that it always looks different, but always colorful. It can be used in many upholstery applications - the high density is particularly suitable for protecting heavy equipment and machines.

PE R 60

PE R 60 is a recycled foam, which consists of 100% old cross-linked PE foams. For this purpose, production waste, old packaging and offcuts are collected and grated in our production. Our partner company picks up the leftovers and uses a thermal process to turn the flakes into new foam boards. This then creates new upholstery, packaging and foam panels. These panels are used as cushioning surfaces for rail transport, sports fields or playgrounds.

These examples make it clear that recycled foams can be used in various industries and that they are sustainable alternatives with all the advantages that plastics bring. Continuous research and development in this area allows us to use increasingly advanced and environmentally friendly materials and create products.

Recycled foams are more than just an innovative material option – it is a step towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future. The variety of recycled foams available and their applications make them a key element in the movement for greater environmental protection and resource efficiency. By consciously choosing materials based on recycled resources, together we can contribute to minimizing the impact on our planet and leaving a better environment for future generations.
